Beowulf; Movie vs. Book

The first thing you notice about the movie Beowulf is that is the same type of animation use in today’s video games. One you get pass the bad animation and the story gets going, you can see the big differences between the movie and the book.

Grendel has legs and feet like a person but in the book(s) his body is more like an over side snake with arms like a lizard. Also Grendel does not talk in the book, at less from what I remember reading and listening to.

When it comes to showing Grendel’s mother they show her with legs as well, again this is not true from what I can recall.

I also do not recall the King jumping to his own death, so I am guess that was added to make a little more drama in the movie and to make it last longer.

At this point in time one must ask, “Why must Hollywood add to and change such and old tale?” It is just not right, and I am sure I will not be watching it again. But I am not telling you not to rent it and watch it, because I think that everyone should make their own minds up on whether or not Beowulf, or any other, is a good movie or not.

There is a production called "Beowulf and Grendel" that was filmed in Iceland that stays pretty close to the story. It's low-budget, so doesn't have great CGI or anything. It also has Gerard Butler, Sarah Polley, and Stellan Skarsgard in it.

Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.
