PLAY WELL
PLAY WELL Above is what, as a young boy, I made out of Play-Doh before my Mum confiscated it and gave me Lego to play with instead. I’m not sure whether you can still get Play-Doh, but the smell of Play-Doh was to die for! After the Play-Doh raid, I played with Lego - below is what I made before my Mum then confiscated Lego and gave me Meccano and Spirograph to play with instead. At the time, I was happy with this deal because I had two toys to replace the one confiscated. But soon I realised very little naughty can be made from Meccano and Spirograph. Lego is a Danish company that began making interlocking toy bricks in 1949. From the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter who made wooden toys, the Lego Company was born. In 1934, his company came to be called Lego, from the Danish phrase ‘leg godt’, which means ‘play well’. Since then, Lego seems to have relentlessly taken over much of the world - from toys to books, magazines, retail stores, theme parks, 's clothes, board games, television, video games, social networking site, business consultancy, tyre manufacturing, and films (including this year’s film, The Lego Movie). Here are ten bits of Lego trivia: 1. Well over 560 billion Lego pieces have been produced; on average, every person owns nearly 90 Lego bits. 2. Germany is the biggest market for Lego products, followed by the US. 3. In May 2013, the largest Lego model ever built was made of over 5 million pieces of an X-Wing (whatever that is!). 4. One of the largest Lego sets that can be bought is the 5,922-piece 'Taj Mahal' set for a mere £1,999. 5. Six pieces of 2x4 bricks can be combined in 915,103,765 ways. 6. Lego’s 'Mindstorms Robotics Invention System' is the biggest-selling Lego set. 7. David Beckham likes playing with Lego. 8. The most expensive piece of Lego ever bought was by Andre Hurley, who paid $15,000 for a piece of the discontinued 'Avohkii Mask of Light' set. 9. At £2479-95, the Star Wars-based 'Cloud City' is the most expensive set that can be bought from Lego. 10. More than 4 billion Lego figurines have been made; soon Lego people will surpass the world’s population - Lego people are already the largest ethnic group in the world. Did or do you play with Lego? Did you like to sniff Play-Doh? What toys did you play with when you were little? Just for the record, my Mum never confiscated anything when I was a little boy. She even caught me wanking in my bedroom without commenting! But I also liked playing with Lego, Play-Doh, Spirograph but not Meccano. |

Dangermouse and I quite often play with Lego...and Play-Doh.....I quite like the smell but I hate it when it gets all over the place and has to be picked up! My favourite to was called Brickplayer....you could build houses with it and "cement" the bricks together and put in windows etc.....they came apart by soaking in water. ~~Anais Nin~~

I know of Lego but have no experience of them. I once got to sniff a pot of Play-doh in a shop, it was ok. As a kid, I had chores, regular beatings and various other abuses but never toys. My older brother had toys that I'd get flogged if I went near.

I hope they still make Play-Doh as I'm getting an urge now to sniff some!
