    1. Rarely heard these days. More common would be: 'get yer heid oot yer arse and get on wi' it!'
    2. Probably when I was in school......
I love the 'get yer heid oot yer arse and get on wi' it!' phrase. I'm going to use it after I've translated it!

Is the 'pull your socks up' phrase common where you are? Very rare indeed

If so, when was the last time someone told you to pull your socks up? Early days in the military, a motivator to stop whining
I was always told to pull my socks up at school!

Is the 'pull your socks up' phrase common where you are? I remember my grandmother using that term many years ago and a neighbor of my parents more recently who is very up in years.

If so, when was the last time someone told you to pull your socks up? I don't think anyone ever used it toward me.
My school teachers always told me to pull my socks up!

Not so common now as it used to be over here ....I'm now more likely to hear "get your feckin act together". I probably last heard it directed at me when I was in school.
Teachers always used to tell kids to pull their socks up, but I suspect their language may be stronger now!

"pull your socks up" is not use in french, but we have : "i will pull your braces up" or "pull your sleeves up".
What i prefer is when she "pull her panties down"
'Pull her panties down' is a far better phrase than 'pull your socks up'!

we don't say that here....we say instead....pull up your bootstraps! the ideology escapes me...but my conjecture is it has something to do with soldiers too!
Bootstraps is not a word commonly used here. I had to look it up!
I think you may be well right about the origins of 'pull your socks up' phrase - many phrases have military roots.

Not in use here at all and never been used on me However, I have been told that my skirt line would look more fetching if I took my panties down
Lucian- what a call back to time long ago when I took art history. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
I would have loved to have studied art history.

I'd rather have a naughty lady pull mine down....and my socks as well
To be honest, what with having to wear compression stockings at times, they can be a pain in the arse to pull up!
A naughty lady can do whatever she likes!
