ENTERING THE DARK SIDE
|
Have you entered the dark side? - Yes, a few times. If so, have you experienced any of the issues I have come across? - At this point I'm so confused I'm not even sure what my questions are! What are your feelings towards the new community format? - I'll figure it out eventually - a project for the cold days to come perhaps. Have posted to it a few times now. It is different. And yeah, if I’m not actively following some of you, I have hunt for it. Which usually means find ing an old comment and hitting a link to your blog. Since I’m still a newbie, maybe I don’t see as much issue. But time will tell. I do applaud Andrew for trying and listening.

It seems that Andrew is allergic to lists. The dark side is a rabbit hole that I have been checking out for the past few days. I really think that being too clever and making endless click for options boxes that are only clear in the mind of the creator is a programmer's disease. Complexity for complexity sake and unneeded or wanted "features" seems to be the rule with them all rather than ease and clarity of use. Cannot figure why he tossed out what did work. I am also peeved that I have to reenter any pics I have in the profile side that I want in the community side or even why the two are split other than to maybe simplify the reprogramming. Sometimes I fear that sleet and hail are going to be added to the Dark Side.

At the moment it does resemble a rabbit hole, the dark one where the carrots exit and no longer resemble carrots. Yes the endless link thing is a pain in the arce. There are posts saying Mr. Cornu had update / improved this or that but it still looks like butt to me. Much like the (anti)social media bunghole he wishes to emulate. At this point I remain unimpressed. However, I do have "to do" list for him which I will post there.

I agree that the menus and dropdown boxes are confusing. And part of that is that the design is still in flux. I'll think that I have things figured out, and then the next day when I log in it's different. Also the "desktop" and phone versions are pretty different. How do you usually visit the site, on a computer or on your phone? I'd be happy to try to answer some of your questions.

You know I would have to agree with what you have shared about the dark side here. I have to say it's made me want to blog much LESS even though I do enjoy blogging.. Have you entered the dark side? Yep and not a fan!!! If so, have you experienced any of the issues I have come across? There are so many issues I don't even know where to start, so I will hold my peace. And I did contact Andrew and asked him site questions a couple of weeks ago and WA LA NO RESPONSE what so ever.. What are your feelings towards the new community format? I would like them to please DITCH this New Beat Community as I feel there will be hardly any bloggers that will continue blogging. Of course that's just my opinion from what I have heard. I hope you enjoy your Sunday..

It's weird because, so far, I've only been able to get on it once! It just keeps taking me back to the current layout. It won't be long before there's two bloglands; it's already happening now.

" It seems that Andrew is allergic to lists. The dark side is a rabbit hole that I have been checking out for the past few days. I really think that being too clever and making endless click for options boxes that are only clear in the mind of the creator is a programmer's disease. " HOLY FUCK ! ! ! I had that exact same thought a few days ago when I was recounting my days at a young automotive research startup. The programmers were nerds, always in love with the clunky creations they tried to foist off on the researchers (the car guys), and always thinking they knew best, and invariably without consulting the end-users prior to design and implementation. Like you, my experience of programmers is that they tend to over-complicate things with little regard for what the users need or want.

* insert shrug here * Like @Tmptrzz said ( *smirk* . . well at least one aspect of the New Calamity Blog Thingy has rubbed off ) " it's made me want to blog much LESS even though I do enjoy blogging.. " Other than re-personalizing my blog and resetting permissions and the like, I stumble around in circles endlessly, say ' fuck it ' and return to watching the Pus Channel on youtube. Have you entered the dark side? If so, have you experienced any of the issues I have come across? Yes, but as others said above me, the layout is different when you've written something on that side. It's formatted where the replies are under the responses. The stuff ported over isn't the same. What are your feelings towards the new community format? He's made it too complicated He's also stated in his latest update I read that he hears us on how complicated it is and may push back the complete rollout date while he fixes the issues.

The dark side, haha... personally I call it the circus tent.

I agree. It's confusing and I wasn't born with the technology the kids have today. Thanks for stopping by.

I looked. I explored. What I notice most is the "old" is not blending well with the "new". I always post a link to the group on my HNW pics. That link now takes me to someplace totally different. My gifs don't work. Emojis don't transfer. They gave my "community profile" a picture that I deleted months ago. My pinned mailbox post is now on the bottom, instead of the top. Comments that I deleted years ago are back. I clicked on the Feedback link and it took me to Andrew's new page with no way for me to actually leave feedback. However - I could find my blog. I figured out how to edit a post. I found my HNW group. I found my watch list. I wouldn't call it a rabbit hole. But it is different with little regard for common sense. Personally, I would've not tried to move the old stuff yet. I think new posts should only be allowed on the new side and the old side kept as an archive until the merging could be done better.

Yes I have enter! I don't know what you encountered because I can't make sense of anything! I don't like the format of the new community. My feelings are fix the existing format and forget about changing everything.
| ||
|
I have been to the new community though yesterday none of the links worked.
| ||
|
The problem is that if it's harder to find those we follow, then, those who follow us will find it difficult to find us.
| ||
|
Everytime I think I have something figured out over there, it changes! Right now my biggest concern is the leaks and dribbles of the old stuff over to the new side. Pictures reposted that should be long gone. Old posts deleted that are coming back like the ghosts of Christmas's past.

There are two bloglands now - the old one with its glitches and a new one. The new format is aimed at the smartphone user. It's all click-and-go-and click again! But I very much hope you return to blogging.

Big sigh ..... and feel exactly as you do Spunky! Def time to shed some light on "the dark"! To me it doesn't seem like there is much to the "New Community", guess I'll have to venture in again and try and make head, tail and sense of it - (all I got to see were pieces and pics from Blogs in no particular order, and you really have to scroll forever to find somebody you know)! Really wish they would give us the vote "for or against", then maybe we could get to keep what have now?!

|
As I read through your review and the comments below my response is yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.... So many complications with the new format's bells and whistles instead of keeping it simple, as has been pointed out Over There, that our initial enthusiasm has evaporated.

Yes, as was on the Dark Side - but still keeping one feet here I complained about some topics to Andrew - and he fixed these very quick. So, my proposal would be to invite him to your post, asking him to read and answer. This here is about community, listening and changing. In my view, a good opportunity to improve or at least to understand, what is happening. Do you want me to connect? But I am sure, you will find him . I am not sure, whether the better New Community should copy everything from the old version. But many things worked and were good (ok, some not), Andrew should hear about it.
