 I've had this come up a lot for me, and I had to deal with it because I was once so poor in college that some of my older girlfriends had to pay or we'd never go anywhere. It wasn't something I enjoyed. I wanted to pay and couldn't.

Best thing I can say now is to just continue offering to pay, not being needy for material things (which I'm guessing youre not), or just surprise him with dinner often. You cook it, or you buy takeout and bring it without giving him the option of paying. When you go to the movies, tell him he can buy the tickets and you'll buy the popcorn, things like that.

Everytime we spend the night in, I cook or will make sure he is looked after in any way possible (before hitting the bedroom). I have to agree tho. I will keep up the banter and eventually, he will give in at some point. Even if it's just once

 I had a similar sort of thing with the boyfriend - so I cook a lot when we stay in, I get every other take-out bill (pizza or sushi, whatever), and I've simply started asking him out and letting him know that I *will* get the tab this time because *I* invited *him* on a date.

He seems more comfortable about letting me pay if I give him advance notice that it will be happening. He still pays most of the time, but I've gotten to the point where he lets me get it once a month or so.

I've been doing the same. Cook as much as I can and try to grab the bill. I actually had it in my hands and when I whipped out my wallet, he stole it and said "What? Whatcha gonna do now?" lol jackass
