Instead, trust what your jeans are telling you! Small fluctuations on the scale are most likely due to water weight which he defines as unstable fluid retention in your body's tissues. For example, if you had something salty, the numbers on the scale will go up. But, if your jeans are getting loose, no matter what the scale says from one day to the next, you're dropping fat, What do you use to tell if you have lost or gained weight? |

Well... using your criteria... I guess when my jeans are around my ankles, I'm either loosing weight - or my dic is flacid and can no longer hold up my pants. I guess I should buy a belt... Yeppers I do this all the time, if waistline is getting loose, THEN I check the scale, or alternatly, if the waistline is getting to tite, i step on the scale, hopefully not squashing it. OR, and this is more accurate for ME, I look at athe way my button frond shorts fit me, if they pull or get tighter than last time, I check the scale. If looser, well just how loose it the question. Men in my family tend to have bellies, many via been consumption, me by bagels, as I worked beside a bakery that made the BEST bagels, and for 2 yrs I ate 6/5days a week ! Now they ALL 'preceed' me when I walk !

my jeans have become looser this past year, to the point that if I don't wear a belt they could slide down by gravity....

When I first started on my quest to get back into shape, I read an article that said the same thing. Ignore the scale, go by the tape. I keep a record of measurements, updated every month at first. shoulders, chest, arms, belly, waist. I don't update it too much anymore, I can see and know where the changes are, and where I still need to work. While my weight dropped in the first year.
