Being entertained by train wrecks on AFF

Charlie Sheen was in Toronto last night and some people paid to see him not because they are fans but because they were hoping to see a train wreck. Whether it involves Sheen or Lindsay Lohan or Tiger Woods or some other well-known person, many people seem to enjoy watching train wrecks.

A similar phenomenon appears to be at work on TSmeet. As I mentioned yesterday, women on TSmeet complain regularly about the number of one-line messages they receive. occasionally, they will post the worst offenses on their blogs - or share these with others who then post them. Curiously, such blog posts tend to be very popular. Making fun of such messages appears to be a guilty pleasure shared by many female members (and couples). Ditto calling out people who send "canned" messages that don't fit the recipient, horrifically abuse the English language, commit glaring profile errors, etc. It appears that such offenses are not only a source of annoyance to the recipient but also a source of entertainment for those who enjoy watching train wrecks.

I am guilty of being entertained by the train wrecks. Should i feel guilty? i don't think so. While i do have compassion for people i just find it so interesting the way some people think this site should work for them and just what deeply personal things some will share in cyber space. The internet still amazes me and it is so intriguing the way in which people utilize it to share stories, or to bully, or to be mean, or...or...you get my drift. I think one of the reasons that this site can be so addicting is cause often i am waiting to see who will crash and burn next, especially in the chat rooms. It is also fun to read the nice, positive stories too and the informative blogs. You have a great weekend.

I think that I sometimes am entertained by train wrecks here because it makes me look quite intelligent by comparison.
