The Jimi Hendrix Blues

Just saw a picture of Jimi on [blog Greyblue1] and the words to Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” and I had to write a comment on his post. I figured I would expand on that comment and add it as a post here.

Original comment: I was cleaning up the room where I have all my CDs and comics and I came across a book that I had bought over a decade ago, but completely forgot that I had (this happens all the time, I have so many books and CDs).

It's called "Jimi Hendrix An Illustrated Experience."

Comes with a 70 minute CD that includes previously (at the time) unreleased live recordings plus an extended studio Jam session.

To me, it's like I found gold!

When I bought music I had a tendency to hold off on listening to it for a while. I would go months, sometimes years before I listened to it. Once I listened to it I would continue to do so every day for a few weeks and then forget about it, move on to the next CD.

I do the same with clothes. However, I tried doing the same with books but never had what it took. I guess growing up poor made me a saver.

Anyway, I’ve had this book with a live performance and other performances by one of my favorite musicians, and I’ve never listened to it.

I’m sure I’ll remedy that in a short while and, of course, I’ll begin reading the book.

I’ve had people telling me what they consider to be Jimi’s best CD like, his “Band of Gypsys” CD, or the “Are You Experienced” CD.

But my favorite Hendrix CD is one simply titled “Blues.”

From what I read, long after, this was a posthumous release, with 6 of the songs previously, at the time, unreleased. 7 of the songs were original compositions.

That CD would be in my player every Saturday night before I went to bed, and it would start automatically and wake me every Sunday morning. I would lie there until the end and then replay "Hear My Train A Comin'" (electric; live), a 12 minute plus beauty.

It was the only song on the CD that was messed up; so I had to get another copy (that was before I had a computer or knew anything about Napster and stuff like that.)

Now I just listen to this copy on rare, almost special, occasions.

Well, I hear my train a comin’, so, until next time… see ya!

I've never fully got into Jumi Hendrix, probably because at the time he was playing was when I was anti-rock and anti-guitar in favour of punk.

    second favorite...A wind cries Mary...

Now that you mention it, I don't know what my second favorite is. So many to choose from.

People are usually surprised by all the different genres of music I'm comfortable with. but I've always claimed to be an artist (doesn't seem like it these days), plus I'm a Gemini (that helps), and I've always been very curious about everything; so that helps.

I don't think I have that one but I have a fair share of Jimi in my collection I am a big fan of his music.

Most people I knew who were fans of Jimi were always surprised when I take that CD out. I think the time of release might have something to do with that.

It's not obscure but I only found it because I'm always going out of the way to find my music.

I do have that but whenever I went to my music stack I always couldn't resist taking down the "Blues" CD.

Gonna go back and listen "Band of Gypsies" this weekend, see if I have different feelings next week (hardly likely though; might take a while!)
