++ Not in a long time!

Well I got a rude awakening about 2 am today! My furnace stopped working! It was about 14 degrees outside and the house temperature went down quickly. Being the handy dandy guy that I am, I rushed to the furnace and shortly found out that it was an issue that I could not fix. So off I went and started the wood burning stove in the den and the fireplace in the living room. The house temperature got back up to a comfortable level shortly. I usually use them just for aesthetic reasons or power outages, but I am sure glad I had them. It does take some work to keep the wood available but well worth it. I even brought the brutes in. They would have been fine in their shelters, but there is no sense exposing them to the cold with out the supplemental heat that the furnace gave them. Now I have been evicted from my den, the like the wood stove more than the fireplace .I am on a list for a service mans visit, not in a rush, I am sure there are probably others in need of urgent service. There are many ways to enjoy the fireplace , but I am alone . Do you have supplemental heat in the event of a furnace outage? How is the weather where you are?

#3 and #4 would make a great ad campaign for fireplaces! They'd be flying off the shelves!

Oh no that sucks. No other heat source if the power goes out. I use to have a wood stove at the other home we had which was handy when the power was out hugs V

I can relate. I had to turn on my furnace for about 30 mins this morning. It was about 45 degrees outside and it got all the way down to 62 degrees inside for the 3rd time this year. So. Cal. winters are so harsh, I try to spend as much of my winter as I can up in Montana.

yes, a wood burning stove as a back up is a good idea! I need to get one!

Not alternate heat source here so I had to abandon ship when the power went out last winter, for 5 days! Fortunately, last winter I had a warm-up buddy.

Sorry to hear that Pal, that truly sucks the weather is in the 50's and 60's here but at night in the 30's freezing for the most part. Hopefully we will get some well needed rain here next week. I hope they get your heater fixed soon..
