Read, but don’t comment?
Read, but don’t comment? When reviewing my blog, I always look to see if some of my TSmeet friends have been by my blog. I blog mostly to have a dialogue with people so I can share and gage opinions. Often times I write a blog post with someone in mind, (you know who you are), thinking they may have something to say, that is insightful or amusing. To my friends who do comment on my blog posts, regularly or infrequently, a big giant thank you. One peculiar thing I have noticed, I have lots of repeat visitors, who never leave comments. I wonder why that is, why people visit regularly but say noting? I took to the Net and found an article on this very issue, listing 25 reasons why people don’t respond to blog posts. All 25 are not applicable to TSmeet, so I have listed and edited the ones that may be relevant. (1) Inarticulate… Not being good at expressing yourself (2) Fear… You're afraid of saying something that others may consider stupid or extreme or silly. (3) Busy… You are in a hurry when you are online. You don't have time to read a post, think deeply about it, mentally formulate a valid response, then post that comment for every article you read. (4) Dumbfounded… I have stated something so completely, so intelligently, so funny, or so profoundly, you are astonished, at a loss for words, and cannot think of an adequate reply that would add anything to what I’ve said. (5) Lurking… You have no intention of interacting with anybody online. For a variety of reasons, you prefer to just read and move on, collecting data, absorbing information, which you may then disseminate in the offline world. (6) Passive… You have been trained by TV, spectator sports, and Hollywood to passively soak up entertainment. You don't participate. (7) Shy… You don't like the spotlight. If you posted a comment, you’re afraid it will attract unwanted attention to you. ( Non-argumentative… You feel that by posting a comment, it would be an invitation for someone else to start a debate with you, and you hate arguing, or are not very good at heated discussions. (9) Irrelevant… The content of my post is not relevant to you, so you just read it, or skim over it, but you’re not very interested in the topic, and thus, refrain from adding to the conversation. (10) Bad presentation… I have written my post in a manner that offends you. I was rude, extreme, angry, vulgar, haughty, arrogant, prideful, condescending, silly, dopey, or too intellectual in my style. (11) Controversial… My article is too inflammatory, negative, political, religious, sexual, edgy, or radical for you. (12) Impersonal… My post has no personality. It's too scholarly, inhuman, textbooky. My cold, aloof style leaves you with no motivation to interact with me. (13) Elitist… You feel like an outsider. You don't want to be seen as an intruder. OK, to those who drop by regularly, but don’t comment, (you know who you are), why don’t you? I’m just curious. Perhaps, you could just pick a number from the list, and comment that way. Regular commenter, do your thing. Find pleasure in giving pleasure |

I often browse the recent posts...like I am doing now...and just don't feel like commenting on a new blog. I am a little shy and take a while to get the feel of a blogger before I comment. Or, sometimes I am browsing from my phone and it's not easy to leave comments. Anyway....Hi....I'm Liz....pleased to meet you. ~~Anais Nin~~

It is something that has baffled me also. Even odder , at least to me, is someone you post to fairly regularly visiting and not commenting, at least occassionaly

khu I have lots of folks that drop into my blog and read but never comment who are on my watchers list. Just gets frustrating when they don't comment at all. If they don't want to write anything just leave me a happy face to say they are around.. or wave.. I truly know and feel your frustrations. I for one don't make a long comment but I do try to make some comment when I visit my regular bloggers. Not every topic they write is for me but at least say hello folks hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

That behavior I understand, people who visit regularly and comment infrequently. I also understand local people who may want to interact with you and want get a better feel for you. The people who I wonder about, are the ones thousands of miles away, who drop by so frequently that you start to recognize their handles, but they have never leave a comment. The true lurkers. #3 is a big one for me. I'll read quickly and get pulled away to do something else. As silly as it can be I wish there was a 'like' button here so we could at least acknowledge that we have read and enjoyed. Thanks again and welcome to my blog. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

Hi Sandra, I have bailed on a few long post, where the post is just taking about the drudgery of their day. But typically, gender bashing posts, I'm all over those, like snow in the artic. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

Most times I'm just browsing, seeing if there's anything I can relate to. When it's something that hits home I almost always comment. One of the things that bothers me the most, is when I write a blog I truly want advice on and a ton of people view it but have nothing to contribute. I write a lot of things when I'm curious or wondering about something. Other times it can be a dilemma I'd like some insight to. Those are also the blogs I like to comment on the most. I hope whatever I have to say to the person helps them in some way.

Hi V, I will remember to leave a happy face or something else the next time I read about the adventures of Victoria. Usually, I'm a little out of sorts after I finishing reading an episode. Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

For me it's #13. I found it interesting they labeled it "elite" because it's not about feeling "better" than someone, rather than feeling like an outsider not wanting to intrude.

I, like most other people in the world, feel I'm more right than wrong on a number of issues. Sometimes, it just takes a slap from someone to turn me on to a new way of thinking. I love the dialog posts create. It would be nice to be able to have the blog posts be as dynamic as groups posts, so we can have conversations within the conversation. Find pleasure in giving pleasure
