Monday Monday
Monday Monday I've worn reading glasses for twelve or fifteen years. I got a new prescription in June, and liked the reading glasses I got for reading a book, but I had to hold my laptop under my nose to see the small font on a lot of pages, so went back today to get computer glasses- calculated for a bit greater distance. I'm a night owl and I had to crawl out of bed at eight, three hours before I usually wake up, to make my appointment. It was worth it, but I was tired all day from not getting enough sleep. I'm spoiled these days! It's nice now that the keyboard isn't directly under my chin! Tired as I was, we hiked three miles at Al Sabo- slowly. It was another perfect autumn day- windy and cool, but it warmed in the afternoon to sixty five. The trees edging the swamp are getting quite bare of leaves, and many of the bright reds and blazing oranges have fallen in the little valley of the West Branch. On our left, walking north, were grey and brown trunks and on the right the land rises sharply upward to the Upper Lookout Trail. This is a forest of oak and beech, much of it still green There's a good deal of yellow hickory in there, and pale rose dogwood that's past it's prime color. Nearing the landbridge we spotted swans in the channel, and a pair of mallards who flew off as we approached. They were on a mission- we weren't close enough to startle them. We took a long break there- my knees were protesting the lack of rest- and Gracie took a dip in the pool east of the bridge. I've been wanting to take longer hikes lately, to look at the colors of the forest, and PD has been grudgingly consenting, but today I was ready to head home, so we climbed the hill to the Upper Lookout and headed south and west. The Lookouts, both Upper and Lower, are a bit of hype these days. The forest has grown up in front of the lookout platform and you can't see far. There aren't many hills around here to provide long sweeping vistas. This is gently rolling country with some short, steep slopes, but our hills aren't even foothills. That was just as well today- I was bushed. There will still be color to see for the next few weeks but down by the Portage Creek swamp the show is nearly over. We trudged home for supper and a nap. Me too! It was my fault- I should have had the reading glasses adjusted for in between, but this works out OK- a pair for reading books and a pair for the laptop. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Thanks, Lala. It was pretty out there today, but I was distracted by my tired old legs! My knees were screaming at me "You fool! Sit down!" Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

I wish I could be there right now, away from this cruel world and the people in it....... WITHOUT PASSION LIFE IS NOTHING

It's probably more beautiful without me in it...but I don't litter! Thank you dear. I need to spend some time with that camera. So far I just tromp through the woods snapping photos, but it's capable of doing a lot more. We got busy with other stuff this summer and I just didn't spend any time learning how to use it. And thank YOU for being such a good friend. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Love the swan framed in the branches, XLNT composition. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

The show is just getting going good here. I drove by a lake Saturday and noticed quite a few trees changing... but some are still green too. Hopefully we get a few calm days so the leaves will stay up on the trees long enough to enjoy Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

If I slept till 8am I'd be tired all day, if I slept till 11 I'd probably be sick. I need to get a new pair of glasses, I can see near fine, but lately a lot of women have been looking good at distances! I don't think it's your glasses that are causing that effect, mac- I think it's your age. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

I struggle to get up before 8am nowadays and I'm not a night owl. I'm often in bed just after the 10pm television new headlines.

It struck me the same way- as unique. I've only driven through the area. I haven't visited the park. My kin were pioneers in Clark, Cumberland, Jasper and Crawford Counties, Illinois and I went down that way on a field trip a few years ago. Turkey Run kind of sneaks up on you. There's all that flat prairie farmland and suddenly you find yourself in rugged hilly and forested country. Indiana will surprise you that way. So much of it seems flat, bland and uninteresting and then you'll suddenly find yourself in a place like Turkey Run, or Pokagon. The countryside on the Michigan border west of South Bend is rolling, wooded and very rural. You keep expecting to find the fringes of Gary and instead it's as bucolic and pretty as a postcard. The early history of the state is the same way- full of wonderful surprises. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.
