What lies beneath.

What is with this current obsession with beards? I just do not get it.

If you're good looking, why on earth would you want to hide that gorgeous face?

I know this might come as a surprise - given the blog, haha - but I am not a fan of the beard.

I particularly hate this look...

...and don't even get me started on overweight men trying to hide their extra chins by growing facial hair. You are fooling no one

Sorry, Jonas! I know you're as cute as a button under all that hair and, ehm, fat.

Oh, and not forgetting the good ole US of A's goatee on a fat guy beard I swear they're all related, but I haven't done any research into this, so don't quote me on that...yet. Don't forget the obligatory baseball hat, ya know, just to complete 'the look'.

Ladies, are you a fan? Or, like me, is it a turn off? Or maybe you don't mind either way. Guys, are you following the trend or did you start it? Or are you clean shaven and you agree with The Telegraph newspaper that "Men who sport beards are more likely to exhibit sexist and misogynistic behaviour than their clean shaven counterparts"? Whatever your views, I for one will be really happy when this trend comes to an end.

That being said, there are always exceptions. A few good men who can carry off the look without me wanting to drag them by the beard to a decent barber. kzoopair being one of them Yes, I know, you were all ready to give me a verbal beating And this pretty little thing...

...Ryan Gosling hiding that pretty boy look under a beard, what a waste.

So what's your pleasure? What say you? Beard, or no beard?

(Let's hope all the pics stay up!)

I'm a clean living and clean shaven kinda guy. Well one out of two ain't bad lol. This silly fad will hopefully pass, some of the examples you've given are just horrible but sadly very accurate That pic of you is awesome lol

I'm sure it will, and thank you

The soul patch and chin strap irritate me. It's not my place to judge, but their recent popularity among young men baffles me. It stretches credulity to the breaking point that young women could find this attractive. I HAVE been informed baldly- neat play on words, don't you think?- by a woman that "I don't like your beard." The proper response of course is "And I don't like your attitude." Not all women are aware of this protocol however and it often ends in bad feelings between the parties.

My own beard didn't begin as a fashion statement. Deer hunting season was approaching and although I'm not a hunter, a lot of the guys around me were, this being a popular deer hunting state. It's customary here for men to try to look like Jeremiah Johnson during hunting season. Maybe they think the deer will simply give themselves up when they see a manly growth of facial hair. I hated shaving every day, and since no one else was shaving I didn't see any reason why I should. It was resented that I was growing a non- regulation beard, since I had no plans to murder a deer. But the resentment fueled my resolve and the beard stayed.

So- my beard was born in 1975 and has never exited stage right, or left either.

Hahaha! Now that you've included such a glorious visual aid I might have to give it a try. I'll work on my "Arrrrrggggh!" and take it from there

Debonair James Bond? Not quite. Rough and flinty-eyed Daniel Craig James Bond? Closer. Indiana Jones after a hard day at the office? Yup

He's a sight and a half, isn't he?!

I admit to having to look up 'flinty-eyed', haha!

Hmm, Indiana Jones after a hard day at the office Only after you've had a long hot shower, though That smell of snake pit is quite awful...so I hear, haha!

This made me laugh as I have been bitching about beards all winter ... It seems like all this past winter when I had someone on my ass while driving, or someone was driving too slow, or someone pulled out in front of me etc. it was a dude with a beard lol. I have just decided the facial hair must draw out all of the common sense in the male body lol. I have now come up with the catch phrase I use to describe these budding scholars... Bearded wonders lol. "Oh go right ahead and pull out in front of me, I have brakes no worries... another bearded wonder taking flight" lol.
I think it started in November... they hyped "no shave November" or some such catchy phrase. It was to promote male health and to somehow encourage men to go to the fucking doctor... not sure what a beard has to do with it but that is when I noticed the attack of the hair begin. I am just hoping for a hot summer, that should encourage men to mow their faces before they mow the lawn.
I am guilty of the hat thing though... I feel naked without one lol.
Ah, yes, and I quote "The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose...". Well, may I just say, as a cancer survivor I object to this BS, and no one consulted me on this I'm not sure how having too much hair on your face is going to make a cancer patient losing the hair on their head feel good about themself

Hahaha at the 'bearded wonders'! I often wonder why I'm paying road tax considering my car appears to turn invisible to some drivers while I'm on the road. I was almost side swiped the other day by what we call 'white van man' over here; pretty self-explanatory Apparently he felt no need to indicate so I knew where the fluck he was going He pulled across me to the right just as I pulled out. No indicator meant he should have carried straight on, but nooo, not white van man! My, my, the language I used would have made a sailor blush I'd love to tell you he was a bearded wonder, but alas didn't get a chance to look at his ugly mug.

Now, the baseball hat. I could find only one example of a guy who looked good wearing a baseball hat One pic! Quite a few hotties who were wearing them back to front, that can be a cool look. You work outdoors in the summer so you get a pass, you need protection from the sun

I couldn't find a good white van man meme, so a picture of the hot guy wearing a baseball will have to suffice. I'm sure you'll appreciate his hotness

You did and I should have acknowledged that and thanked you, but I got sidetracked trying to calculate how old my beard is and how much older it is than you while on my fourth drink. Sure, it seems like a simple task to those of you who are sober, but I can assure you it was quite a task for me.

So, thank you sweetheart.

Five o'clock shadow/designer stubble can be very attractive on some guys, whereas on others it makes them look really scruffy and as if they need a good wash

I prefer a nice smooth face on a guy But of course it's horses for courses (my mum said that today so I had to write it here for you ) but you already know that, as does everyone else reading your blog who has an ounce of common sense

Horny_Holly replies on 4/14/2016 6:17 pm:

I'm clean shaven type of guy myself The first example you posted and Lisa's description of it is baffling to me. They look like they belong in the circus ring knocking seven bells out of each other

The cloned goatee guy is right on and made me laugh You see that look a lot on here and they definitely do look like they've all got the same momma

As for your sexy moustache pic, that's the kinda thing that keeps the haters hatin'

Damn right Holly!

If you grow a long beard it looks very unsightly and is quite frankly a function of laziness.

If you grow a trimmed beard then the short hair is coarse and irritable against others' skin, so you're being stupid and selfish.

If you grow a moustache you actually spend more time shaving than someone who is completely clean shaven due to all the time spent sculpting it, so you are quite frankly vain.

As I've said before if you grow a beard and it makes you look better it doesn't say much about the shape of your face in the first place . . .

At one time I had a goatee for about a year, but it itched like crazy and I was always scratching my chin. The ladies I was around hated facial hair and most women I've met do as well, so I shaved it off and haven't looked back.

I think some guys look good with the 2 day shave, I think I do look better with a 5 o'clock look, and a few look alright with beards, but I don't see the desire some have for the full mountain man beard. Its just a bunch of fuss.

Horny_Holly replies on 4/14/2016 5:43 pm:
Five o'clock shadow is a good look on many a good looking man

Yeah, I really struggle to see the attraction with young guys and, as you put it, the 'full mountain man' beard, ha, good description.

I have no idea what you look like, but never imagined you with a beard for some reason

Your look; good
1st look; looks like something could be nesting in there
2nd look;just silly looking. He has lost weight since that picture, but not down to the size he once was and looked really hot
3rd look; I've had lots of his relatives message me
4th look; Ryan Gosling is really nice looking but I don't like him with a beard

So it's a no thank you from me Some stubble can be really sexy but again with the irritating the skin, I'm not a fan of that.

Horny_Holly replies on 4/14/2016 5:40 pm:

Ha, indeed!

Agreed! He is very good looking at his slimmest, and I think his face is still kinda cute no matter what size he is.

Hahaha, me too, me too!

I think he looks a lot younger than thirty five, and will probably always look younger than his age. Some guys don't like that, which might explain the beard, who knows.

And agreed. It's a home run for you, Miss Polly

Oh, I couldn't bear it if my handsome husband grew a beard. I would miss his beautiful face under all that hair, lol. I don't think my skin could take it either as it's pretty sensitive.

I think Jake Gyllenhaal is quite handsome, but without a beard

Horny_Holly replies on 4/14/2016 5:48 pm:
Yeah, my skin is the same. I remember years ago I got the most awful breakout on my skin from an all-night snogging session with a guy who had stubble. Everyone at work the next day commented on it in horror; "OMG what happened to your face?!" I didn't make that mistake twice, haha.

I'm a big Jake fan, but not of his beard. He's much too good looking to be hiding his face.

lmfao @ the American goatee description I'm sure they're all clones! How the hell do you still look sexy with a moustache

The furthest I've got with facial hair is some stubble. I have friends who have gone down the bearded route and I honestly don't know what the hell they're thinking. The beards makes many of them look much older than they actually are. I don't know if guys in their early 20s are trying to look older Yeah, I'm not a fan either, but then I don't have to date guys with beards or anything else for that matter

Horny_Holly replies on 4/14/2016 5:05 pm:
Hahaha @ clones. Someone else said that about that 'type' on the site I got the pic from. Spooky
