It is one of the founding principles the USA was founded on as Jefferson wrote:
"I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."
And it became part of our system of government.

Otherwise, which religion would become mandatory to recognize and which ones would be outcast?

Isn't that being "discussed" in the Middle East now?

It is and it is being discussed in a rather heated manner in the Middle East.

No! We need to bring more back. We were all about you having the right to have your own, not that there isn't any! Our money, all the old buildings etc. mention God and his grace. A big reason we're going to shit around here.

On the east facing peak of the Washington Monument is written a prayer. But if you go to DC and see its scaled down model you'll notice or not notice it as they've turned that side toward the wall behind it! I'm sick of this PC crap and the fuckers that push it!
No! We need to bring more back. We were all about you having the right to have your own, not that there isn't any! Our money, all the old buildings etc. mention God and his grace. A big reason we're going to shit around here.

Okay lets say we bring some of the aspects of Sharia Law into the legal system then, or is that not the religion you prefer?

Did you mean "Our money, all the old buildings etc. mention God and his grace. A big reason we're going to shit around here." is the reason we are going to shit around here? I would have to agree with you that religion in our politics and legal system is a reason we are going to shit.

Why should your religion be the one that has the say?

In most cases in the history of this country the religious references you mention and others were deliberately kept as non- denominational as possible. But there were individuals who wanted to make those references very religion specific. Do you think that would be appropriate?

How about separate from SEX? Just question that came to my mind seeing this post.

Some people might be able to separate the two but not all.

If however you mean this shouldn't be here on a "sex" site then remember you are free to choose what you read but not free to choose what other people write.

I find it alarming when politicians declare that they have determined a particular political direction on religious grounds. It usually means the decision is completely flawed and that they're looking for some sort of justification for it.

However, if the question is whether you can separate religious beliefs from political beliefs, I'm not sure you can. Though on a similar basis to McBiggle's thoughts, it seems to me that if you are prepared to allow one religion to influence the political sphere, then you should be prepared to allow them all to. Politics and religion are all facets of human culture after all (and not particularly good ones at that!)........

Sorry, edited this from my original comment. I just wanted to add that in my opinion, religion should be completely separate from politics, though there are a few fundamental tenets common to all religions which should perhaps form the foundations of any political system - those being truth, honour (of some sort), warmth towards your fellow human, the right to live a safe and healthy life etc blah

tickles4us replies on 11/29/2016 1:55 pm:
I agree in the separation of church and state being essential and that not all can keep their religious beliefs from affecting their choices and decisions.

It is true that a very large majority of law here and in other countries including Muslim and Christen countries are based on religious tenets that often are very similar. Morals seem to be a universal human trait but they don't have to be based in religion even though that is the common way of people teaching/re-enforcing them to their children.

Who's to say which religion should be represented? In theory America is still a melting pot of different cultures and religions .... in theory.

tickles4us replies on 11/29/2016 1:44 pm:
Hopefully it stays that way with separation of church and state being respected by all.

It's supposed to be that way here too though it seems doubtful at times and could be hard to say soon enough.

The Bible itself says render unto Ceasar's what is Ceasar's and unto God what is God's. In other words, keep government out of of religion and vice versa. Can it be anymore clearer?

tickles4us replies on 11/29/2016 1:40 pm:
I think that was actually a capitulation to pay your taxes to Ceasar or he's going to make it irrelevant, if you know what I mean.

Yes separation is best for all.

Totally and completely.

It says in our Constitution that there shall be no religious tests to holding office. .. Yet most politicians make sure the public knows how seriously they take their faith and that it controls their actions. **cough cough** ... Very few can separate the two. (Joe Biden does a pretty good job.)

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

tickles4us replies on 11/29/2016 1:32 pm:
It's not just the politicians letting the people know, the people demand to know what religion their leaders are following.

I agree separation is essential to a free country.

I think the two go hand in hand or should.

tickles4us replies on 11/29/2016 1:23 pm:
So you think the region of people working as your representatives and law makers should be allowed to come through in there decisions and laws.

Not that it doesn't or hasn't but do you think that is the way the government should be run?
